Quick Glossary: Storage
Amidst the growing landscape of data storage methods and functions, keeping up with the terminology used to describe the technology has become challenging as well.
This quick glossary from TechRepublic Premium is intended to serve as a guide to defining common storage terms and noteworthy storage service providers.
From the glossary:
ASYNCHRONOUS REPLICATION
Asynchronous replication refers to a data replication method in which changes to primary data are copied to secondary storage devices or remote locations. This replication occurs periodically and with a time delay. Asynchronous replication has a low-latency impact, allowing continuous updates on the primary system without waiting for the secondary site to finish writing data. However, there is a potential risk of data loss if the primary site fails before data is replicated to the secondary site.
